Book Cover Design Rationale

Artist: Venneth C. Jimenez

The design of this book cover is centered on the idea of developing a survival mindset. The red emergency box serves as a powerful visual device, evoking a sense of urgency and a call to action. It symbolizes the critical choice we must all make: to confront our limiting beliefs, fears, and doubts head-on. The “BREAK GLASS” concept encourages readers to shatter these internal barriers and take the necessary steps toward personal growth.

To represent the idea of practical tools for self-empowerment, at the center of the visual is an image of a bright yellow book, symbolizing caution, like a handy toolkit where the main title shows. The green band that holds the subtitle represents a guiding aid, which cues for “GO” – a signal to take action, move forward, and embrace the tools provided for change.

This action-oriented theme is reinforced through the message of healing, cultivating self-awareness, and fostering self-determination. The main title features a crossed-off “to-do” box. This crossed box represents the journey and a personal commitment on learning about and defining gender-based violence (GBV), along with the personal challenges people must cross.

This visual design encourages readers to act with intention, break through obstacles, and make empowered choices for a better future.

This book cover, art direction, layout, and in-page visuals were created by someone who once felt lost – someone who hated herself and blamed those who hurt her. A victim. She shared her story, she was guided, broke the “glass” of her limiting beliefs, took ownership of her truth, and has been walking the path of healing ever since. Venneth C.
